I cannot believe you are already one month old! On Saturday, we took your one month pictures in the morning. You were so happy and full of smiles and joy.
Size: At one month you are 8lbs 11oz and getting longer by the day. You are outgrowing your newborn clothes and working your way into 0-3 months. Your legs are too long for newborn jammies but the 0-3 month onesies are still a bit too big in the torso. You have also outgrown newborn pampers and are moving into size ones.
Eating: You are still exclusively breastfed and eat about 8-12 times per day on demand. I don't have you on a schedule yet, rather I let you tell me when you are hungry. You are getting around 2 bottles per week of pumped milk to get you used to the bottle for daycare, give Mommy a break and give Daddy a chance to bond with you.
Loves: You love your bouncy seat when the bird sounds and songs are playing and you like your swing when its nap time during the day. You haven't slept in your crib yet, you still sleep in the rock n' play by our bed, which we will probably use for a few more months. You have spent a few minutes in your crib here and there just to get you used to it.
You LOVE to be held and snuggled. You are a loving little baby and we love when you cuddle up to us and take a nap.
You love to be sang to. Mommy has relearned all of the old nursery rhymes and lullabies and also makes up funny songs when you are fussy.
Sleeping: You take at least 2 decent naps during the day and a few cat naps as well. You are usually up for a few hours in the evening and finally go down for the night around 10 or 11 and sleep until 2 or 3 then go back down until about 6am. You are a really a good little sleeper!
You have several nicknames: Mommy and Daddy call you squeak and beebs or baby C. Gram and Granddad call you beebalino or beebling.
Random tidbits: When you are fussy and just want to be held you don't really cry you just say "a wah" and stick out your bottom lip- I swear, it is the cutest thing I've ever seen.
When we first brought you home for about 3 weeks you were very gassy and very fussy in the evening. We took you to the doctor last week and the doctor suggested more frequent burping. When we were in the hospital the lactation consultant stated that breastfed babies typically don't need to be burped, boy was she wrong! You have been burping up a storm in between breasts and after each feeding and your gassiness / fussiness is gone!
You were only taking one breast at a time for the first month. You would fall asleep and I wouldn't force the issue/wake you up/burp you so we assumed your meal was done. However at night it felt like you were so upset and eating so frequently. This past weekend, Gram came to visit and she said we need to give you both breasts at each feeding being as you are only getting half a meal leading to more frequent snacking and frustration on your part. She suggested feeding you on one side for 15 minutes, doing a diaper change and burping then feeding you on the other side for fifteen minutes or until you pull away. SHE IS THE SMARTEST GRAM EVER because you are so happy now! You are feeling full and satisfied and our evenings are much more pleasant. That's why Gram gets paid the big bucks as a pediatric NP. Thanks Gram!
You bring so much joy to our lives and have become the center of our universe. We love you to the moon and back and can't imagine a more perfect little boy. We love watching you grow and learn and look forward to documenting each new milestone with you.
Happy one month sweet boy!
Love,
Mama and Daddy
